Trip to the Pumpkin Farm
Almost every parent I know has the tradition of picking out pumpkins with their children in preparation of Halloween or decorating for Fall. I was lucky enough to combine the annual trip with my son to Joe's Farm (where we also pick the Peaches) AND a design project. That meant a three-year-old "helper", six wheel barrows, 410 pounds of pumpkins, bales of hay, and a tractor ride...then the design install. Probably one of the most labor intensive jobs I've done for design but definitely fun and full of memories with a fantastic outcome.
My client has a big, beautiful front porch and wanted to play it up for Fall. She saw this and wanted to mimic that look...easy enough (minus the dog). I found a few inexpensive crates at a local store that magically matched her front door, grabbed some potted mums from a nursery, and the rest just fell into place. Tons and tons and tons of pumpkins (okay, a quarter of a ton) and a few bales of hay later, here was the end result. She had neighbors and passersby stop and tell her how incredible it was for the entire month it was set up. I felt like I had just pulled off the Griswolds House in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, Halloween-style. SUCCESS!
