Staging to sell.
This living room project was unique in the fact that I was hired to not only design a room for my client's current home, but to also make furniture and decor choices that would transition into his next house. The house was going to be listed to sell shortly so I needed to makeover certain areas of the house to make it more appealing for buyers. In addition, it was the second time the house was on the market in six months; it had not sold the first time around. I knew that I needed to make neutral choices that would allow buyers to see themselves potentially living there. My first job was to change an in-your-face red accent wall that clashed with the wood floors and cabinetry. Next, we made furniture and decor choices that were personal to the client (photographs on canvas, maps of places he'd traveled to) but were also subtle as to not take away from the beauty of the actual home itself. One of my favorite pieces was the custom subway sign printed on canvas listing golf courses that the client had played and loved. The photos on canvas were a few of his that he had taken (just on his iPhone!) and I had them printed using one of my favorite sites for easy photo printing. Within two weeks of listing, he had a full-price offer that sold the house for the highest price per square foot in his neighborhood! And, as planned, his furniture and decor worked just as well in his new home. WIN WIN.
